How Much to Invest in Digital Marketing
I want to clear up a common misconception.
Many folks think they need to spend a ton of money on digital marketing and literally need to have buckets of cash laying around to burn. I have some good news, this is not the case! Nor would I recommend this.
- Start small and scale
- My approach is to launch digital marketing campaigns with small daily budgets, prove it’s worth, then scale if it’s proven to drive business results.
You have full control
Unlike TV, print or billboard advertising, you have absolutely full control in what you’re comfortable spending and can set appropriate limits. For example, my brother has a successful business selling customized wrought iron table legs. I help him advertise and we have super low budgets set for a few campaigns we’re running, to the tune of just $10 per day. We’re advertising via Google Search and Remarketing (more on this topic later). I don’t want to burn through my brothers cash, so we start small, and already we’re getting strong signals that it’s working really well. From here we’re going to increase our daily budgets, until we see a diminishing return.
With digital you can advertise locally, hyper locally. For example, if you have a dental practice and you know that your patients would only drive 10 minutes to their dentist, you can advertise within a tight radius. You can advertise based on a 10 mile radius from your zip code . This insures you are only reaching qualified local candidates.
- Social campaigns
There is a ton you can do without any advertising. This is true, but thanks to social platforms like Facebook and Instagram, you can drive some solid results through a social strategy, while not spending a dime. Not to say that this is easy, but there are small things you can do, on a repeatable basis that will help your business. For example, my wife is a home decor instagram influencer and she has over 30k instagram followers. She grew this base without ANY advertising. True story. She did this through sheer social prowess. Keep following me and I’ll drop some knowledge in the future on this topic as well. A lot of people are trying to figure out social and happy to report that you can grow a large, engaged following without spending a boat load.
Alright, peeps! Keep on fighting the good fight.
